Honey harvesting area Southland, New Zealand
Honey harvesting area details Located at the southernmost tip of New Zealand's South Island, Southland is strongly influenced by a maritime climate, resulting in small temperature differences throughout the year and stable, abundant rainfall. The region is dotted with national parks and other vast nature reserves, and is home to a rich array of untouched nature, including kiwis and other rare wildlife.
Southland, one of the regions closest to Antarctica, is home to vast pastures where sheep, cows, and deer graze; driving through the region can sometimes mean waiting for a herd to cross the road. This majestic landscape of continuous pastures symbolizes the gentle climate of New Zealand. The region is also known for its dairy and meat products. Hives are often set up around the pastures where sheep, cows, and deer live, and bees collect nectar from pasture flowers such as clover. As pollination also helps to grow the grass, farm owners welcome beekeepers. The southern climate is so cold that snow accumulates in winter, and even in summer it is windy, limiting the number of days that bees can work outside. This harsh yet pure natural environment nurtures the special honey that is unique to Southland.
Recommended way to eat ・With its milky sweetness and refreshing aroma, it is recommended for sweetening coffee. It blends well with black coffee as well as coffee with milk, and creates a mellow flavor even without adding milk.

・It's delicious simply with toast, but it also pairs well with butter, so we especially recommend French toast. The milky sweetness and salty butter blend together perfectly for a rich, full-bodied flavor.

・It's also a healthy option to pair it with strawberries instead of condensed milk. The refreshing grass-like aroma matches well with the tartness of strawberries.
